Pannon GSM and Voxline launch PocketWeb
Internationally patented solution on PannonW@P to
mobilize Web content
19 July, 2002, Budapest - The more than 2 million subscribers
of Pannon GSM can now access the most popular Internet portals on
their mobile phones thanks to an innovative service developed by
Voxline, Ltd. PocketWeb makes the entire content of more than a
dozen Internet Web sites viewable on Pannon’s Wap site, PannonW@P.
This internationally patented solution represents a long-awaited
link between the World Wide Web and WAP. The innovation behind PocketWeb
can potentially lead to a breakthrough in the practical usefulness
and radical expansion of the mobile Internet.
What's been happening on the stock exchange? Who'll be the next
Formula 1 world champion? What is this summer's latest fashion?
What is making the nation laugh? - PocketWeb, a unique WAP service
launched jointly by Pannon and Voxline that ensures direct and unabridged
access to Internet sites over conventional mobile phones, provides
the answers to these questions and thousands more. PocketWeb, the
world’s first fully automated service that maps selected Web content
into Wap services, enables subscribers to access the most popular
forums of the Hungarian Internet community on their mobile phones.
"PocketWeb is a great leap forward in the development of
WAP content. With this service WAP users have really been given
mobile Internet capability," said Sándor Fejes, the CEO of
Voxline.
The launch of PocketWeb is an important milestone in the history
of WAP, which has been criticized with its lack of content since
its birth. Behind PocketWeb, there is an internationally patented
solution, which has been developed by Voxline Ltd., a software technology
company that focuses on mobile content aggregation applications.
This innovative technology is capable of filtering and converting
existing Internet content into various mobile formats, such as SMS,
WAP or even MMS, fully automatically, without the need for tedious
re-programming or re-publishing of the original Web pages. This
breakthrough application makes it possible to drastically improve
both quality and quantity of today’s existing WAP arsenal and eventually
make all existing Web sites accessible over common WAP phones.
And the links in PocketWeb are certainly colorful. When selecting
content for the service, Pannon GSM endeavored to meet the widest
possible range of user-requirements. Many of the major Hungarian
Web portals can now be accessed via PocketWeb. Users interested
in financials, politics, or fans of the latest breaking news in
technology or entertainment can all find their sites of choice on
PocketWeb. The selection is being continuously extended, and users
are able to browse a growing number of Internet portals day-by-day.
